Mission Aviation Fellowship
Designing stories that help flights happen

Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is an international charity delivering help, hope and healing to communities living in some of the world’s most remote places.
Oak Creative partnered with MAF to support one of their most important supporter touchpoints: a set of quarterly publications that share mission updates, impact stories and opportunities to get involved.
In a nutshell it has been absolutely magnificent, the service and delivery from Oak Creative is outstanding. MAF UK has incredible partnerships all over the world and our partnership with Oak Creative is no different. The team at Oak are dedicated and conscientious, which has helped the Flying for Life magazine go from strength to strength since we started working together. This Summer 2020 issue was so crucial to our fundraising this year and Oak were a vital part of getting it right. Because we have a strong brand to uphold and an important message to share, we meticulously plan every issue – we simply cannot afford to go wrong. To know we can rely and trust Oak Creative is worth its weight in gold.
Why did Mission Aviation Fellowship come to Oak Creative?
MAF came to Oak Creative because they wanted to outsource the artworking and layout of their magazine, allowing their in-house team to focus on wider fundraising campaigns. They needed a trusted creative partner who could reliably manage the quarterly production cycle, handle detailed editorial content, and deliver a consistently high standard of design.
Alongside the magazine work, we also supported a one-off fundraising campaign piece designed to help drive donations. While it was a standalone item, it still needed to feel aligned with MAF’s tone and brand, to encourage action from supporters.
What was the objective of Oak creative working with MAF?
As an international charity, MAF has a strong and established brand which needs to be upheld across every piece of communication. The objective of Oak Creative’s work was to protect and strengthen that brand through consistent, thoughtful magazine design, ensuring each issue looked credible, compelling, and easy to read.
Every quarter, Oak’s goal was to bring together styling, text, and photography in a way that felt balanced and purposeful. Delivering a publication that is impressive, informative, and supporter-friendly, while reinforcing trust in MAF’s work and encouraging continued engagement.
What was involved in the project?
Flying for Life & Prayer Diary
Each season, Oak Creative designed a 16-page magazine for Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF). The quarterly publication, Flying for Life, documents news from around the world about MAF’s missions and how their work has helped people in remote parts of the globe. It combines real stories, photography, updates, and fundraising messaging into a clear, well-structured publication designed for supporters and stakeholders.
Alongside Flying for Life, we also designed MAF’s Prayer Diary every quarter – a companion piece with its own pace and purpose, requiring careful layout, readability, and consistency so it’s practical and meaningful for MAF’s community to use.
How did Oak Creative approach the project?
Oak Creative approached the work as a long-term partnership, building a reliable quarterly process to produce the magazine to schedule every time. Because MAF’s brand is well established across the world, our focus was on staying true to it while keeping each issue fresh, readable, and visually engaging.
The Oak Creative team are dedicated and conscientious – working carefully with detailed content, multiple story types, and varied photography to ensure everything feels aligned. We collaborated closely with Richard Chambers, the fundraising manager – including a face to face live editing session before final sign off. Each issue, Flying for Life went from strength to strength, helping to reinforce MAF’s credibility and share their inspiring stories from around the world.
